Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
